A. PAST PERFECT TENSE
Past Perfect Tense adalah tense yang digunakan untuk menjelaskan suatu aksi (action) sudah selesai dilakukan pada masa lampau di waktu tertentu sebelum melakukan aksi berikutnya.
Past Perfect Tense juga dapat digunakan membentuk conditional sentence type 3 dan reported speech.
Past Perfect Tense menggunakan auxiliary verb Had + Past Participle (V3) dalam kalimatnya. Baik Singular Subject dan Plural Subject menggunakan bentuk yang sama :
(+) S + Had + V3 + O
(-) S + Had Not + V3 + O
(?) Had + S + V3 + O + ?
Examples :
- I had locked the door before I left my room
(Saya sudah mengunci pintu sebelum saya meninggalkan ruangan saya)
- If they had gone to your house that night, they would have met your parents
(Jika seandainya mereka pergi ke rumahmu malam itu, mereka pasti sudah bertemu orang tuamu)
- Ani said that she had already done her homework
(Ani berkata bahwa dia sudah mengerjakan pekerjaan rumahnya)
- The train hadn't left when you arrived
(Kereta apinya belum berangkat ketika kamu tiba)
- Had Mrs. Laila been a teacher when she got married?
(Apakah Bu Laila sudah menjadi seorang guru ketika dia menikah?)
B. PRESENT PERFECT TENSE
Present Perfect Tense adalah tense yang digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu aksi sudah dimulai sejak masa lampau dalam waktu yang tidak spesifik, tapi aksi tersebut sudah selesai dilakukan di masa lampau pada waktu tertentu, tapi hasilnya masih dirasakan di masa sekarang; ataupun aksi tersebut belum selesai dilakukan, bahkan masih dilakukan hingga masa sekarang.
Keterangan waktu yang biasanya digunakan dalam Present Perfect Tense, antara lain :
- just
- already
- since
- for
- this week/month/year
- this morning/afternoon/evening
- yet
- never/ever
Present Perfect Tense menggunakan auxiliary verb Have/Has + Past Participle (V3) dalam kalimatnya.
Singular Subject (He, She, It) dan Singular Noun (kata benda tunggal) menggunakan Has
Plural Subject (They, I, We, You) dan Plural Noun (kata benda jamak) menggunakan Have
(+) S + Have/Has + V3 + O
(-) S + Have/Has Not + V3 + O
(?) Have/Has + S + V3 + O + ?
Examples :
- She has worked in the hospital since 2000
(Dia sudah bekerja di rumah sakot sejak tahun 2000)
- Mr. Agus and Mr. Budi have been teachers in this school for 20 years
(Pak Agus dan Pak Budi sudah menjadi guru di sekolah ini selama 20 tahun)
- We haven't finished our homework yet
(Kami belum menyelesaikan pekerjaan rumah kami)
- Have you ever seen this movie before?
(Apakah kamu pernah melihat film ini sebelumnya?)
- Lucia has sent the email this morning
(Lucia sudah mengirimkan emailnya pagi ini)
C. FUTURE PERFECT TENSE
Future Perfect Tense adalah tense yang menyatakan sebuah aksi akan diselesaikan di masa yang akan datang. Seseorang yang mengatakan sebuah kalimat dalam bentuk Future Perfect Tense memposisikan dirinya di masa sekarang, dan melihat sebuah aksi diselesaikan di masa yang akan datang.
Keterangan waktu yang biasanya digunakan dalam Future Present Tense, antara lain :
- until
- before/by the end of the day
- by the end of the week/month
- by next week/month/year
- by ...
- in a week/day/month/year
- after/before
Future Perfect Tense menggunakan simple future will have + past participle (V3) dalam kalimatnya. Baik Singular Subject maupun Plural Subject menggunakan bentuk yang sama :
(+) S + Will Have + V3 + O
(-) S + Will Not Have + V3 + O
(?) Will + S + Have + V3 + O + ?
Examples :
- My parents will have been at Singapore until Sunday
(Orangtua saya akan sudah berada di Singapura sanpai hari Minggu)
- He will have arrived home at 4 pm
(Dia akan sudah tiba di rumah pukul 4 sore)
- You won't have finished the task by midnight
(Kamu tidak akan sudah menyelesaikan tugasnya sampai tengah malam)
- Will we have received the package by Tuesday?
(Akankah kami menerima paketnya hari Selasa?)
- Will the shop have closed by 9 pm?
(Akankah tokonya tutup pada pukul 9?)
